I got this email from a BTA follower a few days ago:

I have to agree.

ChatGPT DOES create code with errors.

I’ve been using it for the last year and a half to generate VBA Excel code, and while it saved me a lot of time and money, it was frustrating too.

ChatGPT and AI have immense potential.

But there is also a lot of hype around these tools and many aren’t even reliable (or practical) yet.

People are publishing articles online about some magic trading strategy or indicator ChatGPT created, and it’s rubbish.

Don’t fall for this.

It’s junk.

ChatGPT does have some uses in trading, however, you need to understand something about ChatGPT and other LLMs:

They can only really create accurate responses for code already available in tutorials or documentation online.

If you want them to do something specific or complex, the output will be hallucinations (made up) and probably won’t work.

So this is my warning if you’re trying to get ChatGPT to generate code for trading.

These tools are getting better, and I’m sure they’ll improve dramatically over the coming months and years, but right now you need to always check and test the output.

Don’t trust something just because an AI model created it.

These new capabilities can be a blessing, but only for people who know how to use them!
